Hey, so it depends on how you learn best, some people find it more helpful to physically write notes down and others find it easier to type. I personally type mine because I feel you get so much information given to you that you can’t keep up; then when I’m at home I will write my notes out but completely depends on how you learn best :)
Hey, Thank you for contacting us 😊Many students continued to work part time during first year so it’s entirely your choice on how well you’ll manage the two. One of my friends was working on the Wednesday and Saturday 7/8 hour shifts and still came out with a really good grade It really depends on how well you handle stress as you will get so much information thrown at you in first year and it can become overwhelming Let us know if you have any further questions☺️
You can wear what you like :) you will have to wear a uniform (polo shirt and trousers, or a tunic if you are religious) for things like your observation day, placement, and osce but you will be given this :)
There are lots of places to get food on City South Campus. The canteen specifically has an alternating menu, it serves full meals like fish and chips and burgers.
You can also get big meals from the Social Kitchen which serves food such as pizzas and loaded wedges. You can buy food and drinks from Starbucks, Costa and the Campus Shop which does meal deals.
If you’d like updates on all the food served across the BCU campuses, @bcucatering is a great instagram account to follow.
So for the induction I’m not sure if yours is fully face to face or a mix of online too, as ours was a mix but the lecturers introduced themselves and we just had an overview of what to expect on the course from the course leads. We also had some workshops and experts by experience sessions where we could ask questions, as well as a session about placements, RCSLT and some fun activities in between. We were put into groups for these sessions so we could get to know each other and make friends Hope that helps! ☺️
Hi Myra,Thank you for your message and well done on making it onto the course! We would recommend notebooks, (possibly one for each module as you will get a lot of notes!) There’s 6 modules in total for first year. Pens, post it notes, revision cards, highlighters, definitely recommend a diary or planner as well, but many students use laptops to make their own notes (obviously it depends on your preference)There is an SLT student who has a small business with some really cute stationary items., if you fancy having a look. You can find her @letgotoholdon on twitter but her username is the same for Etsy as well.It can be very easy to get things muddled up between modules with so much information being given to you so I would also recommend having some folders to keep each module separate Let’s us know if you have any further questions and we will be in touch as soon as we can ☺️
Amy’s response was great, really comprehensive!I think it’s important to think about what types of stationary/organisational systems have worked for you in the past. Uni is all about independent study so the only essentials are the things you feel work for you! :)
Currently a first year and not sure how to be taking my notes! Really unsure on what would benefit me in the long run - handwritten or typed?
are handwritten or digital notes more suitable for the course?
Hey! Just wondered if you think there is time to work part-time alongside the course in first year? If so, how many hours do people typically ?
what is the dress code like for the course?
what food is served at the city south canteen?
what to expect on the induction?
What are stationery essentials needed for slt course?
